May 2023

First of our busy months

May is when the days stay lighter for longer and our days are much longer too!

Our first agricultural show is on this month and its a huge one for us!

We are attending our first goat show at the Devon County Show in Westpoint, Devon. Preparations and  first time showing nerves are already kicking in ... its only 4th May !!!

You will be able to meet some of our beautiful, rare breed Golden Guernseys, Damson, Cassie, Delilah, Eden, Evie and Eliza along with lots of other breeds of goats.

We also welcomed pigs, Bill and Ben, along with a very friendly sow, Gloria.

Also new this month is a new Shampoo Bar, made with our own goats milk. Bergamot & Rosemary shampoo bar will be available to buy at the end of May, when it is cured and ready to use.

March 2023

KIDDING HAS BEGUN - ON TIME!

So we started March by getting the Maternity Wing ready in the goat shed. Individual pens for mother and babies, to enable them to bond for a few days.

They then move to the Nursery Pen, where all mums and babies are in together. This is where the fun begins.

Olivia kidded first on 4/3/2023, a boy. Dilly on 5/3/2023, a boy. Hazel on 6/3/2023, a boy. Heather also on 6/3/2023, with another boy! All mums and their kids are doing well.

Plenty more still to come!!

February 2023

COUNTDOWN TO KIDDING!!

Well, its almost February (3 days to go) and then we start counting down to kidding ...

Our first due to kid is Dilly and she is due on March 3rd.

Kidding was planned to be just for the month of March but unfortunately circumstances beyond our control, meant we had to delay putting some of the girls in with the billy, because we were helping out a friend for a couple of months, by keeping their goats.

January 2023

RAIN, RAIN, AND MORE RAIN!!

So Christmas has been and gone, which means one exciting event happens!!

Lewdown Young Farmers raise money for charity by collecting people's Christmas Trees for a donation and then they bring those trees to us ... FOR THE GOATS!

Christmas trees are loved by the goats and are also good for them, as they are a natural wormer for our goats.

The goats will eat the pine needles, strip the branches and trunk of bark and leave us with a bare tree.

Dave then uses the bare trunks of the trees to create platforms, ladders and other interesting surfaces for the goats to climb on or use for enrichment.

We have had lots of rain over the past few weeks and as you can see, mud, mud and more mud. For me its just a matter of time before I get stuck and take a mud bath!
