Our story so far ...

Hello, we are Dave and Carolyn. We began our farming journey together in 2014. Our journey has changed how we see and do things on our small farm and hope that you will enjoy finding out about our animals and life here on the farm.

We started small, with just five acres of land, a handful of chickens to provide us eggs and three children. It didn't stay that way for very long! We soon added ducks, more chickens, sheep and pigs. The goats came later and is our love of the goats that has taken our journey in a different direction ... we breed goats, milk our goats and use that milk to create our luxury artisan goat milk soap, using natural ingredients and having a zero waste product.

Traditional, native and rare breed animals feature highly here on our farm. To us it is important to keep our farming history alive and encourage people to understand that small, traditional farms can produce high quality products. Traditional breeds still feature in smallholding, where animals are kept for what they can provide to the smallholder/farmer's family. Traditional breeds were always bred for their flavour, not for how quickly they grow. Once you try meat from a traditional, slow-grown, breed you will be able to taste the difference in quality and flavour.

Lamb, Mutton & Hogget

Our sheep live a wonderful life on the farm, grazing on grass and hay throughout the year.

By giving them this life, without stress, means when we get our meat back from the butcher, the taste difference is there.

Our lamb is very tasty but if you've never tried hogget or mutton, we would recommend it. Hogget is from a sheep aged 1-2 years. Mutton is from a sheep over 2 years. Both have more flavour and less fat, the only difference is in they way you cook them. Hogget and Mutton need to be cooked slower than lamb.

Goat Meat

Our herd of Boer goats are kept for breeding. We also grow some on for meat. They live the best life possible and that shows in taste of the meat.

Goat meat is one of the most consumed meats around the world and is high in protein and very low in fat.

We usually recommend trying our goat meat sausages first and then move onto joints or diced meat.

Goat meat is cooked in a similar way to lamb, but because it has very little fat, it is better to cook it long and slow to get the best flavour.

Soaps & Other Produce

Natural soap is produced on the farm, using raw goats milk, from our own dairy herd of Golden Guernsey and Saanen goats.

It is one of the kindest and natural products that can be used on your skin and is ideal for people with sensitive skin.

We sometimes have rugs produced from our lamb and goat skins, which are prepared for us by a company called Devonia, also based here in Devon.

It takes 4-6 months for the skins to be prepared and processed into rugs.
